In today’s world we are often exposed to pollutants, bacteria and other unwanted debris getting to our skin on a daily basis. There are a multitude of skincare products available to moisturise and nourish the skin, however a simple cleanser is one of the most important products, as a clean face allows any follow-on products to be properly absorbed and can prevent acne.
Cleansing your skin can help to prevent acne
A facial cleanser removes dirt, bacteria, makeup and dead skin cells, which left uncleansed can cause acne, inflammation and more prominent pores. There are tiny glands that are situated under the skin that produce sebum to protect the skin. Utilising hair follicles as a pathway, the glands send sebum to the skin’s surface to form a barrier to protect against penetration of bacteria or other harmful substances. Dirt build up on the skin’s surface can cause the follicles to become blocked, which traps sebum, sweat and dead skin cells. Due to a blockage, the sebum is not available on the skin’s surface which then allows bacteria to penetrate the follicle causing inflammation and potentially acne.
Boost Hydration
By cleansing your skin, you are eliminating the blockages of follicles and allowing the sebum to protect and regulate your skin’s moisturisation. By cleansing your face you are allowing your skin to manage its pH levels - aiding in hydration and product retention.
Hot or Cold Water?
Lukewarm water is best for cleansing your skin. If water is too hot it can shock the skin and cause broken capillaries, and can also strip the skin of its natural oils. Apply the cleanser to your fingertips and rub together to form a lather to help activate the cleanser. Move your fingertips in a circular motion across your face and neck, then rinse with lukewarm water.
